INK STAINS: Navigating Love and Conflict in Family Characters

One of the biggest challenges of authentic memoir is creating characters out of complex people in our own real lives. We kick off 2024 with a candid conversation about challenging characters and their arcs in your memoir. Guided writing prompts will help till the soil of your own personal cast of characters, and then we’ll draw from Linda Joy’s family therapy and Kay’s journal therapy backgrounds to have open conversation and sharing. Let’s get curious together about how to write about real people!
What you will learn:
- You’ll create a list of some of your “favorite” and “not favorite” characters.
- How to think about creating characters in your memoir.
- Using psychology and family systems thinking as a way to understand characters.
- Freeing yourself, as much as you can, from the inner critic when creating characters in your memoir.
- You’ll come away with ways to continue developing your characters with less stress!
