There is a vast difference between writing a book for your own purposes – to share your legacy, to heal, to learn to write, because you are curious or called to do it – and writing memoir for other people to read. Jennie Nash’s Blueprint for a Memoir book walks writers who are serious about reaching readers through a series of questions about their story. In this presentation, she will discuss her Blueprint method in general – why she made it, how you can use it — and she will focus in particular on the one step that is the key difference between a memoir you write for yourself and a memoir that has a fighting chance in a demanding marketplace.

Participants will learn:

• The most important of the 14 Blueprint steps – which is the difference between writing a memoir that makes room for a reader and writing one that is only about you.
• How to take off your writer’s hat to think differently about your story – even if you are still writing it or have already finished it.
• How to determine what your ideal reader wants from your book. Why would they seek it out?
• How your book will fit in the marketplace. What kind of conversation will it spark?
